Amir of Qatar Receives Call from Greek Prime Minister

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received a phone call on Monday from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during which the two leaders discussed bilateral relations between Qatar and Greece and a number of topics of mutual interest.
The conversation covered ways to strengthen cooperation between Doha and Athens across various fields, including trade, investment, energy, and cultural exchanges. Both leaders also reviewed regional and international developments of common concern, according to the Amiri Diwan.
Qatar and Greece have maintained steady diplomatic ties, with relations deepening in recent years as Doha has expanded its investment footprint across Europe. Greek-Qatari cooperation has grown particularly in the energy sector, with Greece serving as a key transit point for liquefied natural gas shipments into southeastern Europe. Athens has looked to diversify its energy supplies, and Qatar, as one of the world's largest LNG exporters, has emerged as a strategic partner in that effort.
The phone call comes at a time of heightened diplomatic activity for Qatar, which continues to play an outsized role in regional mediation efforts and international dialogue. Doha has positioned itself as a trusted interlocutor on a range of global issues, from conflict resolution in the Middle East to energy security discussions with European partners.
Greece, for its part, has sought to bolster its ties with Gulf states as part of a broader foreign policy pivot toward the eastern Mediterranean and the wider Middle East. Mitsotakis has made strengthening economic partnerships with Gulf Cooperation Council nations a priority, and the call with the Amir reflects the ongoing momentum in that direction.
Bilateral trade between Qatar and Greece has seen steady growth in recent years, with Qatari investments flowing into Greek infrastructure, real estate, and tourism projects. The Qatar Investment Authority has previously expressed interest in expanding its portfolio in Greece, particularly as the country continues its economic recovery and modernization drive.
The two nations have also cooperated on maritime affairs, given their shared interests in the eastern Mediterranean, and have engaged in regular high-level consultations on security and defense matters.
The Amiri Diwan noted that the call reflected the strong and growing partnership between the two countries and the shared commitment of both leaders to advancing cooperation for the benefit of their peoples. No specific agreements or joint initiatives were announced following the conversation, though both sides expressed readiness to continue building on the positive trajectory of bilateral relations in the period ahead.
