Hamas Urges Action from Mediators Over Alleged Israeli Ceasefire Violations in Gaza Strip

Hamas has called on international mediators and guarantor states to take immediate action in response to what the Palestinian movement described as systematic Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, raising fresh concerns over the fragile truce that has held since January.

The Islamic Resistance Movement issued the appeal through official channels on Sunday, warning that continued Israeli breaches undermine the foundations of the agreement and threaten to unravel the diplomatic progress achieved through months of painstaking negotiations brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.

Hamas did not specify individual incidents in its latest statement but cited a pattern of alleged violations including restrictions on humanitarian aid convoys, continued military activity in designated buffer zones, and delays in the implementation of prisoner and detainee exchange protocols outlined in the phased deal.

The ceasefire agreement, which entered into force in January 2025 following intensive Qatari-led mediation, was hailed at the time as a landmark breakthrough after more than fifteen months of devastating conflict that killed tens of thousands of Palestinians and displaced the vast majority of Gaza's population of over two million.

Qatar played a central role in securing the truce, with senior officials from the Qatari Foreign Ministry serving as primary intermediaries between Hamas and Israeli negotiators throughout the talks held in Doha. The Gulf state has repeatedly reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring all parties uphold their obligations under the agreement.

The United Nations and several international human rights organizations have separately documented instances of continued Israeli military operations in parts of Gaza since the ceasefire took effect, though Israeli officials have disputed characterizations of these as violations of the agreement's terms.

Hamas's appeal comes as negotiations over the second phase of the deal — which is expected to address the status of remaining hostages and a permanent end to hostilities — remain stalled, with mediators working to bridge significant gaps between the two sides.

Regional observers warned that failure to enforce accountability mechanisms embedded in the agreement could embolden further breaches and erode trust in the mediation framework, potentially triggering a return to open conflict. Qatar and Egypt have both urged restraint and called for strict adherence to the terms agreed upon by all parties.
