Israeli Airstrike on Southern Lebanon Town Kills Four, Injures Three

An Israeli airstrike on the southern Lebanese town of Maaroub killed four people and wounded three others on Monday, Lebanon's Health Ministry confirmed, as Israeli military operations on Lebanese territory continued despite a fragile ceasefire arrangement that has struggled to hold since its declaration in late 2024.

The Gulf Cooperation Council has collectively expressed deep concern over the continued instability along Lebanon's southern frontier, warning that fresh escalation threatens the broader equilibrium of the Levant and risks entangling wider regional actors at a time of already heightened tensions.

Al Jazeera and other regional outlets reported the strike through correspondents on the ground in southern Lebanon, with footage showing damaged buildings and emergency responders working at the site.

Human rights organizations monitoring the conflict have documented hundreds of strikes on Lebanese territory since the ceasefire was declared, fueling ongoing debate over compliance with international humanitarian law. The United Nations has repeatedly urged Israel to end airstrikes on Lebanese soil and allow the Lebanese state to consolidate authority over its southern territory.
