Israeli Ambulance Service Reports 88 Injured from Iranian Rocket Strike in Arad

Israeli emergency services reported transferring 88 people injured from the site of an Iranian rocket strike in the southern city of Arad on Saturday, marking one of the most significant casualty events in the ongoing exchange of fire between Iran and Israel.

Magen David Adom, Israel's national ambulance service, said 10 of the injured were in serious condition, while 19 sustained moderate wounds. The remaining casualties were described as lightly injured, with teams working to evacuate victims from the impact zone to nearby hospitals in the Negev region.

The strike on Arad, a small city located approximately 25 kilometers west of the Dead Sea and 45 kilometers east of Beersheba, underscored the reach of Iranian ballistic missile capabilities deep into Israeli territory. The city, home to roughly 26,000 residents, is not typically considered a frontline area in the broader regional conflict.

Israeli military officials confirmed the missile penetrated the country's air defense systems, though they did not immediately provide details on whether interception attempts had been made. The Israel Defense Forces said they were assessing the full scope of the attack and would respond at a time and manner of their choosing.

Iran has not issued an immediate claim of responsibility for the strike, though the attack follows months of escalating tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv that have drawn in multiple fronts across the Middle East. The exchange of strikes between the two countries has raised alarm among international observers about the prospect of a wider regional conflagration.

Hospitals in the southern Negev region were placed on emergency footing following the strike, with medical teams mobilized to handle the influx of casualties. Israeli media reported that some of the seriously wounded were airlifted to major trauma centers in central Israel.

The State of Qatar has consistently called for de-escalation across the region and urged all parties to exercise restraint to prevent further civilian casualties. Doha, which maintains diplomatic channels with both Western and regional powers, has positioned itself as a mediator capable of facilitating dialogue to avert a broader conflict. Qatari officials have repeatedly stressed that military escalation serves no party's interests and that the protection of civilian lives must remain the foremost priority.

The United Nations has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities between Iran and Israel, warning that continued strikes risk destabilizing an already fragile region. Several Gulf states have echoed these calls, emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions over military confrontation.

The attack on Arad is expected to intensify pressure on the Israeli government to respond decisively, while simultaneously fueling international diplomatic efforts to prevent the conflict from spiraling further. Regional analysts noted that each successive strike raises the threshold for de-escalation, making mediation efforts increasingly urgent.
