Israeli Army Radio Reports 40 Rockets Fired from Lebanon Since Morning

At least 40 rockets were fired from Lebanese territory into northern Israel since the early morning hours on Tuesday, according to Israeli Army Radio, in one of the heaviest single-day barrages recorded since the fragile ceasefire that halted fighting between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect late last year.
The rocket fire prompted air raid sirens across communities in the Galilee region and upper northern Israel, with Israeli emergency services reporting damage to structures in several localities. The Israeli military said its air defense systems intercepted a number of the projectiles, while others landed in open areas. No immediate casualty figures were confirmed in early reports.
No group has formally claimed responsibility for the attack. Hezbollah has maintained a degree of public distance from cross-border fire since the November 2024 ceasefire agreement, which was brokered with significant American and French diplomatic involvement and required the militant group to withdraw heavy weaponry north of the Litani River. However, smaller armed factions operating in southern Lebanon have continued to carry out intermittent fire.
The incident threatens to reignite tensions along the Blue Line at a moment when the region is already under severe strain from the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza, now in its eighteenth month. Lebanese political leaders have called for calm and urged all parties to respect the terms of the ceasefire agreement, warning that a renewed conflict would be catastrophic for a country already navigating a delicate economic and political recovery.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, said it was monitoring the situation and had been in contact with both Lebanese Armed Forces commanders and Israeli military officials. The body has previously expressed concern about violations of the ceasefire from multiple sides.
Qatar, which played a central mediating role in earlier Gaza ceasefire negotiations and has maintained open diplomatic channels with multiple parties in the region, has consistently called for de-escalation along Lebanon's southern border. Doha has warned that any expansion of the conflict risks triggering a wider regional conflagration that would undermine ongoing efforts to reach a durable ceasefire in Gaza and destabilise humanitarian access corridors.
Gulf states are watching developments closely. The Arab League has previously called on the international community to pressure Israel to honour its ceasefire obligations, while Qatar's foreign ministry has reiterated its position that only a comprehensive political solution — including an end to the Gaza war and Israeli withdrawal from occupied territories — can produce lasting stability across the Levant.
The situation along the Lebanon-Israel border remained volatile as of midday Tuesday, with Israeli military aircraft conducting reconnaissance flights over southern Lebanon and Lebanese security sources saying army units had been placed on heightened alert.
