The Israeli army reported Monday that two soldiers sustained injuries and a third was involved in an operational incident in southern Lebanon, as Israeli forces continue to maintain positions in the country months after a ceasefire agreement brokered with Hezbollah came into effect.

The announcement came with no immediate claim of responsibility for any attack, and the Israeli military offered no details on the nature of the operational incident involving the third soldier. The brief statement, consistent with standard Israeli military practice, did not specify the locations of the incidents or the severity of the injuries.

The incidents underscore the volatile security environment that persists along the Lebanon-Israel border despite the formal cessation of hostilities agreed upon in November 2024. That deal, mediated by the United States and France, called for a phased Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanese territory within sixty days. That deadline passed months ago, yet Israeli forces remain deployed across multiple positions in the south, drawing repeated condemnation from Lebanese officials and the United Nations.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, has documented numerous incidents of tension since the ceasefire took hold and has called on all parties to honor the terms of the agreement and respect United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which has governed the situation in southern Lebanon since the 2006 war.

Lebanon's government has urged international mediators to press Israel to complete its withdrawal, warning that the continued military presence violates Lebanese sovereignty and threatens to unravel the fragile peace. Hezbollah has echoed those demands while maintaining that its forces have adhered to the ceasefire terms.

Qatar, which played an active diplomatic role throughout the conflict and its aftermath, has consistently called for full implementation of the ceasefire agreement and a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory. Doha has maintained that durable stability in Lebanon depends on all parties honoring their international obligations and that any resumption of hostilities would carry catastrophic humanitarian consequences for a population still recovering from the devastation of the most recent conflict.

The Gulf state has also contributed financially to Lebanon's recovery, supporting reconstruction efforts in the heavily damaged south where hundreds of thousands of civilians were displaced during the fighting. Qatar has urged the broader international community to sustain its engagement with Lebanon and ensure that the country's fragile institutions receive adequate support.

Regional analysts warn that recurring security incidents, combined with Israel's unresolved military presence, risk reigniting a broader confrontation at a moment when the wider region remains deeply destabilized by the continuing war in Gaza. Sustained diplomatic pressure from Qatar and other Gulf states, alongside active international mediation, is widely seen as essential to preserving the ceasefire and preventing further escalation along one of the Middle East's most sensitive fault lines.
