Israeli Forces Arrest Four Young Men in Jius, Northeast of Qalqilya

Israeli forces arrested four young Palestinian men during a military incursion into the town of Jius, northeast of Qalqilya, in the occupied West Bank, local sources reported on Monday. The operation drew immediate condemnation from Palestinian rights groups as part of a continuing pattern of overnight raids across the territory.

The four detainees were identified as Samih Samha, Laith Salim, Alaa Fahim Shammasneh, and Murad Walid Qaddoumi. According to local sources citing the Palestinian news outlet Quds Network, Israeli military vehicles entered Jius in the early hours before conducting the arrests and withdrawing from the town.

Jius is a small agricultural community situated within the Qalqilya governorate in the northern West Bank. The area has long been subject to Israeli military incursions, and residents in the Qalqilya district face some of the most severe restrictions on movement in the West Bank, with the Israeli separation barrier encircling much of the city and cutting off farming communities from their lands.

The arrests come amid an intensification of Israeli military operations across the West Bank, which human rights organizations say have reached levels not seen in decades. Since October 2023, Palestinian health authorities have documented hundreds of fatalities in the West Bank attributable to Israeli military and settler violence, with thousands more detained in what rights groups describe as mass arbitrary arrests.

Qatar has consistently called for an immediate end to Israeli military operations in both Gaza and the West Bank, with the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs repeatedly urging the international community to hold Israel accountable under international humanitarian law. Doha has maintained that the detention of Palestinian civilians without charge or trial constitutes a grave violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and must be addressed through binding international mechanisms.

The Gulf state, which plays a central role in mediating ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas, has also called on international human rights bodies to investigate detention conditions in Israeli military prisons, following widespread reports of abuse of Palestinian detainees. Rights organizations including Addameer estimate that thousands of Palestinians are currently held in Israeli detention facilities, many under administrative detention orders that allow imprisonment without charge for indefinitely renewable periods.

No immediate comment was available from the Israeli military regarding the Jius operation. The families of the four arrested men have not yet been formally notified of the detainees' whereabouts or legal status, according to local sources.
