Israeli Forces Conduct Arrests During Raid in Jius, Northeast of Qalqilya

Israeli occupation forces launched a sweeping arrest campaign in the town of Jayyus, located northeast of Qalqilya in the northern West Bank, as large military formations stormed the area in the early hours, Palestinian sources reported Monday.

Witnesses described heavily armored vehicles and infantry units deploying across multiple entry points into Jayyus, a Palestinian agricultural town of roughly 3,500 residents situated near the separation barrier. Israeli forces conducted house-to-house searches before detaining a number of residents, whose identities and exact number had not been officially confirmed at the time of reporting.

The raid marks the latest in an intensifying pattern of Israeli military operations across the occupied West Bank, which human rights organizations say have reached unprecedented frequency since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has documented a sharp rise in incursions, home demolitions, and detentions throughout the West Bank over the past eighteen months.

Qalqilya governorate, where Jayyus is located, has been among the most heavily affected areas. The town itself sits adjacent to agricultural lands that Palestinian farmers have long struggled to access due to restrictions imposed by the separation barrier, which the International Court of Justice ruled illegal in its landmark 2004 advisory opinion.

Qatar has consistently called for an immediate end to Israeli military operations in both Gaza and the West Bank, with the Qatari Foreign Ministry repeatedly urging the international community to hold Israel accountable under international humanitarian law. Doha's mediation efforts between Hamas and Israel over a Gaza ceasefire have placed Qatar at the center of international diplomacy aimed at de-escalating the broader conflict across Palestinian territories.

The Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, in which Qatar holds a prominent voice, have both condemned the acceleration of arrest operations and settlement expansion in the West Bank as deliberate attempts to alter the demographic and legal character of occupied Palestinian land ahead of any future political settlement.

No immediate comment was issued by the Israeli military regarding the Jayyus operation. Palestinian medical sources confirmed that no casualties had been reported from the raid at the time of publication, though the situation remained fluid as forces maintained positions inside the town.
