Israeli Forces Conduct Raids and Arrests in Dheisheh Refugee Camp, Bethlehem

Israeli occupation forces launched a sweeping raid on Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem in the early hours of Sunday, conducting arrests and searches across multiple residential blocks in what witnesses described as one of the most intensive incursions into the camp in recent months.
Residents reported that armored military vehicles entered the camp before dawn, with soldiers forcing their way into homes and detaining a number of Palestinians whose identities have not yet been confirmed. Clashes broke out in several areas of the camp as young men confronted the advancing troops, and the Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed treating a number of injuries on the scene.
Dheisheh camp, established in 1949 to house Palestinians displaced during the Nakba, is home to approximately fifteen thousand registered refugees and has long been a focal point of Israeli military operations in the southern West Bank. The camp has faced repeated incursions in recent years, with human rights organizations documenting a sharp escalation in arrest campaigns targeting young men, often held under administrative detention without charge or trial.
The raid follows a broader pattern of intensified military operations across the occupied West Bank since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has recorded hundreds of incursions across West Bank camps in the past year, with Bethlehem governorate among the most heavily targeted areas.
Qatar, which has consistently called for an immediate end to Israeli military operations across all Palestinian territories, reiterated its position earlier this month that the protection of Palestinian civilians under international humanitarian law is non-negotiable. Doha has urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for ongoing violations in both Gaza and the West Bank, warning that the continued raids and mass arrests fuel cycles of violence and deepen the humanitarian crisis facing Palestinians.
The Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation have both condemned the escalating crackdowns in the West Bank, calling on member states to apply diplomatic pressure on Israel to halt military operations in civilian areas. Gulf states, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, have increasingly coordinated their diplomatic messaging on Palestinian rights as part of broader efforts to advance a two-state solution.
No immediate comment was available from the Israeli military regarding the nature or scale of Sunday's operation in Dheisheh. Palestinian Authority officials condemned the raid and called on international monitors to document the violations, as community leaders warned that the repeated incursions were pushing the camp's population toward a breaking point.
