Israeli media reported Thursday that approximately 100 rockets have been fired from Lebanese territory into Israel since a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran took effect on April 8, raising fresh concerns about the fragility of regional stability and the limits of diplomatic agreements in halting hostilities across the Levant.

The reports, which could not be independently verified, indicate that rocket fire has continued intermittently across the Israel-Lebanon border in the days following the US-Iran accord, which many regional observers had hoped would serve as a broader mechanism for de-escalation across multiple fronts.

The ceasefire brokered between Washington and Tehran was widely seen as a pivotal moment in efforts to contain a conflict that has spread far beyond its initial flashpoints. However, the continued rocket fire from Lebanon suggests that armed factions operating in Lebanese territory either remain outside the parameters of the agreement or are actively testing its limits.

Lebanese officials had yet to issue an official statement taking responsibility for or condemning the rocket fire, reflecting the complex political landscape within Lebanon, where state authority competes with the influence of armed groups. Israel's military said it had intercepted a number of the projectiles using its air defense systems, though the full scope of damage or casualties had not been confirmed at the time of publication.

The development drew concern from across the Gulf, where Arab states have repeatedly called for an immediate and comprehensive cessation of hostilities across the region. Qatar, which has played a significant diplomatic role in mediating conflicts in the Levant — including hosting key negotiations over the Gaza file — reiterated its position that security and sovereignty must be respected in accordance with international law.

Doha has consistently maintained that military escalation in any form serves only to deepen the suffering of civilian populations and to undermine prospects for lasting peace. Qatar's foreign ministry has urged all parties to honor existing agreements and return to dialogue as the only viable pathway toward regional stability.

The rocket fire comes as the broader region remains on edge following months of escalating tensions involving Iran, Israel, Lebanon, and various non-state actors across the Levant. Analysts warn that even with a US-Iran framework in place, independent armed factions continue to pose a significant challenge to any comprehensive ceasefire architecture, and that the fragile diplomatic gains of recent days remain susceptible to rapid unraveling if cross-border incidents persist.

The United Nations and several international bodies called for restraint and an immediate halt to all cross-border fire, stressing that civilian populations on both sides of the Lebanon-Israel border bear the heaviest cost of continued hostilities.
