An Israeli airstrike killed one Palestinian and wounded several others in the central Gaza Strip on Saturday, medical sources said, in the latest violence to strike the besieged territory despite international calls for a permanent ceasefire.

The strike adds to a mounting toll since fighting resumed following the collapse of a ceasefire that had briefly halted hostilities. According to tracking data cited by regional outlets, at least 715 Palestinians have been killed and 1,968 wounded since October 11, when the last ceasefire agreement broke down.

Details of the location and the identities of the victims were not immediately available, though medical teams and civil defense crews were said to be responding to the scene. Gaza's health infrastructure, already strained by nearly two years of conflict, has struggled to handle the continuous stream of casualties.

The violence comes as international diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting halt to hostilities remain stalled. Qatar, which has played a central role as a mediator in negotiations between Israel and Hamas, has repeatedly called for an end to military operations and the protection of civilian life. Qatari officials have urged all parties to return to the negotiating table, emphasizing that a political solution remains the only viable path to lasting peace.

Middle East Eye, which reported the strike, did not immediately provide further details on the weapon used or the circumstances of the attack.

The renewed fighting has drawn sharp condemnation from human rights organizations and governments across the Arab world. The United Nations and several Gulf states, including Qatar and Kuwait, have warned that the escalating civilian death toll risks destabilizing the broader region and undermining ongoing mediation efforts.

Gaza's population of more than two million people continues to face severe shortages of food, medicine and clean water, with aid agencies describing the humanitarian situation as catastrophic. Ceasefire talks brokered in part through Doha have so far failed to produce a durable agreement, as both sides remain far apart on core issues including the release of hostages and a permanent end to Israeli military operations in the strip.

Qatar Standard will continue to monitor developments and update this story as further information becomes available.
