Pakistan Offers to Host US-Iran Talks to Resolve Mideast Conflict

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has expressed his country's readiness to host negotiations between the United States and Iran, offering Islamabad as a neutral venue for talks aimed at de-escalating tensions and resolving the broader Middle East conflict.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Dar said Pakistan maintains strong diplomatic ties with both Washington and Tehran, positioning it as a credible mediator in what has become one of the most consequential diplomatic standoffs in the region. He emphasized that Islamabad's offer stems from a genuine desire to see peace prevail and to prevent further destabilization across the Middle East.

The offer comes at a critical juncture, as the United States and Iran remain locked in a protracted dispute over Tehran's nuclear programme, regional influence, and the ongoing war in Gaza, which has drawn in Iranian-backed groups across multiple fronts. Washington has maintained a policy of maximum pressure on Iran through sweeping sanctions, while Tehran has insisted on the lifting of those measures as a precondition for substantive dialogue.

Pakistan shares a lengthy border with Iran and has historically sought to balance its relationships with Tehran and the Gulf states, as well as with Washington. Islamabad has previously facilitated backchannel communications between rival powers and played a quiet but significant role in regional diplomacy, most notably during periods of heightened tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Analysts note that the Pakistani offer reflects a broader trend of Muslim-majority nations seeking to assert themselves as peacemakers in the Middle East. Qatar, which successfully mediated multiple rounds of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza and has long served as an interlocutor between the United States and various regional actors, has demonstrated the strategic value of such diplomatic engagement. Doha's mediation efforts have earned it international recognition and reinforced its position as an indispensable partner in conflict resolution.

The timing of Pakistan's proposal also coincides with intensified diplomatic activity across the Gulf, where several states have pursued dialogue-driven approaches to regional crises. Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has repeatedly called for peaceful resolution of disputes through negotiation rather than confrontation, a principle that appears to resonate with Islamabad's latest initiative.

It remains unclear whether either Washington or Tehran has formally responded to the Pakistani offer. The United States has previously expressed openness to diplomacy with Iran under specific conditions, while Iranian officials have signalled willingness to engage provided their sovereignty and national interests are respected.

Diplomatic observers say any progress toward structured US-Iran talks, regardless of venue, would represent a significant breakthrough with far-reaching implications for stability across the Middle East and the broader Muslim world.
