Protesters in Ouargla condemn Israeli actions against Al-Aqsa Mosque and Palestinians

Protesters gathered in the Algerian city of Ouargla on Tuesday in a solidarity vigil condemning Israel's repeated closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and a proposed Israeli law that would enable the execution of Palestinian prisoners, as Arab public anger intensifies over escalating Israeli measures against Muslim holy sites and detained Palestinians.

The demonstration, organized in the southern Algerian city, drew participants who held Palestinian flags and banners denouncing what they described as systematic Israeli violations against the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, and the broader assault on Palestinian lives and rights. Speakers at the vigil called on Arab and Muslim governments to take concrete action to halt Israeli encroachments on the mosque and to oppose legislation they said amounted to a license for state-sanctioned killing.

Algeria, a consistent voice for Palestinian rights at the United Nations Security Council where it currently holds a non-permanent seat, has repeatedly called for an end to Israeli violations at Al-Aqsa and throughout the occupied Palestinian territories. Algerian officials have framed the Palestinian cause as a cornerstone of the country's foreign policy, rooted in its own history of anti-colonial struggle.

Qatar, alongside other Gulf states, has also strongly condemned Israeli restrictions on Al-Aqsa, with the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs issuing multiple statements calling on Israel to respect the legal and historical status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. Doha has consistently warned that provocations at Al-Aqsa risk igniting a broader regional conflagration and has urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions at the holy site.

The Ouargla vigil reflects a growing wave of popular solidarity demonstrations across the Arab and Muslim world as civilians demand more forceful responses from their governments to the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza and the parallel erosion of Palestinian rights in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
