Qatar Emir Condemns Israeli Strikes on Lebanon, Offers Support for Stability

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani spoke by telephone with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Wednesday, conveying the State of Qatar's strong condemnation of the Israeli airstrikes targeting Lebanon and expressing Doha's readiness to provide support and assistance to help restore calm and stability in the country.
During the call, the Emir reaffirmed Qatar's solidarity with Lebanon and its people, stressing that the Israeli military escalation represents a dangerous violation of Lebanese sovereignty and a threat to regional stability. He emphasized that Qatar stands firmly against any aggression that endangers civilian lives and undermines prospects for peace in the Middle East.
Sheikh Tamim expressed Qatar's willingness to contribute to efforts aimed at de-escalation and to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by the strikes. He underscored Doha's commitment to supporting diplomatic channels and international mediation efforts to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
The Lebanese president thanked the Emir for Qatar's unwavering support and its principled stance in condemning the attacks. The two leaders discussed the latest developments on the ground and exchanged views on the steps needed to protect Lebanese civilians and preserve the country's territorial integrity.
The phone call comes amid a renewed wave of Israeli military operations in Lebanon, which have drawn widespread international condemnation. The strikes have caused significant damage to civilian infrastructure and displaced thousands of families in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.
Qatar has long played an active diplomatic role in Lebanon, providing substantial financial and humanitarian aid during the country's protracted economic crisis and in the aftermath of the devastating 2020 Beirut port explosion. Doha has consistently called for respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and has backed international efforts to support the country's fragile institutions.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier issued a statement condemning the Israeli strikes in the strongest terms, calling on the international community to take immediate action to halt the aggression and hold those responsible accountable under international law.
Regional observers note that Qatar's diplomatic engagement reflects its broader foreign policy approach of leveraging mediation and dialogue to address conflicts across the Middle East. Doha has maintained open channels of communication with multiple parties in the region, positioning itself as a credible interlocutor in times of crisis.
The international community has called for restraint from all sides, with the United Nations Secretary-General urging an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to diplomatic negotiations to address the underlying tensions fueling the escalation.
