The Qatar Stock Exchange surged four percent at the opening bell on Tuesday, posting its strongest single-session gain in months as regional markets rallied on news of a temporary ceasefire agreement in the Middle East.

The QE Index opened sharply higher, with broad-based buying across banking, energy and real estate sectors driving the advance. Trading volumes in the first hour exceeded daily averages as institutional and retail investors moved swiftly to price in the improved geopolitical outlook.

The rally came after multiple parties confirmed a temporary truce agreement late Monday, raising hopes for a sustained de-escalation of hostilities that have weighed heavily on regional sentiment for months. While details of the arrangement remain subject to diplomatic confirmation, the initial market reaction reflected cautious optimism among Gulf investors who have long positioned for a peace dividend.

Qatar National Bank, the exchange's largest listed company by market capitalization, rose more than three percent in early trading. Industries Qatar and Qatar Islamic Bank also posted significant gains, underscoring the breadth of the rally across the bourse's blue-chip constituents.

The Doha exchange was not alone in its optimism. Bourses across the Gulf Cooperation Council states opened higher, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi each advancing more than two percent and Saudi Arabia's Tadawul posting gains of nearly three percent. The synchronized move across regional markets suggested that investors viewed the ceasefire as a meaningful catalyst rather than a short-lived headline.

Analysts noted that Qatar stands to benefit disproportionately from any lasting reduction in regional tensions, given Doha's prominent role as a diplomatic mediator and its extensive economic ties across the Middle East. The state's liquefied natural gas exports, which account for a significant share of government revenue, have remained resilient throughout the conflict, but reduced geopolitical risk could unlock additional foreign direct investment and accelerate infrastructure spending ahead of major development programs.

Qatar's economy has demonstrated remarkable stability in recent quarters, supported by elevated energy prices and continued diversification efforts under the National Vision 2030 framework. The stock exchange had already posted year-to-date gains prior to Tuesday's session, and the ceasefire-driven rally extended those advances.

Market participants cautioned that the durability of the gains would depend on whether the truce holds and leads to broader negotiations. Previous ceasefires in the region have produced sharp but sometimes short-lived rallies, and investors said they would monitor developments closely in the coming days.

Trading is expected to remain elevated through the week as investors digest the geopolitical implications and reassess risk premiums across Gulf asset classes.
