Six Killed, Several Injured in Israeli Airstrikes on Al-Bureij Camp in Gaza

Israeli airstrikes struck Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza on Saturday, killing at least six Palestinians and wounding several others, according to reports from Al Jazeera Mubasher, as the relentless military campaign continues to exact a devastating toll on the besieged territory.

Al-Bureij, one of the oldest and most densely populated refugee camps in the Gaza Strip, has been repeatedly targeted since Israel launched its military offensive following the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023. The camp, home to tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians, has seen some of the most intense bombardment of the ongoing conflict.

Palestinian civil defence and medical sources confirmed the casualties were retrieved from the rubble of residential structures. Hospitals in the central Gaza area, already operating far beyond capacity amid chronic shortages of fuel, medicine, and medical equipment, scrambled to receive the wounded under conditions that healthcare workers have described as catastrophic.

The strikes come as international calls for a permanent ceasefire continue to mount. Qatar, which has played a central mediating role throughout the conflict alongside Egypt and the United States, has repeatedly urged all parties to halt the fighting and facilitate unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza's civilian population. Doha has hosted multiple rounds of negotiations and remains one of the few diplomatic channels still functioning between Hamas and Israeli authorities.

The State of Qatar condemned the targeting of civilian areas and refugee infrastructure, reiterating its position that the protection of non-combatants under international humanitarian law is non-negotiable. Qatari officials have consistently called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the release of all hostages and detainees as part of a comprehensive agreement.

The United Nations and humanitarian agencies operating in Gaza have warned that the cumulative destruction of civilian infrastructure — including homes, hospitals, schools, and water systems — has pushed the population to the brink of famine and collapse. More than 51,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the offensive, according to Gaza's health ministry, with the majority being women and children.

Regional governments across the Gulf have expressed deepening concern over the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait have all condemned strikes on civilian areas and called for international accountability. Qatar's Foreign Ministry has maintained that a two-state solution and a definitive end to the occupation remain the only path to lasting regional stability.

The international community continues to watch closely as diplomatic efforts press forward, even as the death toll in Gaza rises with each passing day.
