Meteorological Authority Warns of Thunderstorms and Strong Winds on Coast and Offshore

Qatar's Department of Meteorology issued a weather warning on Sunday alerting residents and maritime operators to expected thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds along the country's coastline and offshore areas, urging caution as unstable weather conditions move across the region.

The meteorological authority said the warning covers coastal zones and open waters, where thunderstorms could bring heavy rainfall, reduced visibility, and gusty winds capable of disrupting maritime activities and outdoor operations. The department called on fishermen, sailors, and beachgoers to exercise heightened vigilance and avoid venturing into open seas until conditions stabilize.

Officials indicated that the adverse weather is linked to a broader atmospheric system affecting parts of the Arabian Gulf, with moisture-laden air masses converging over the region and triggering convective activity. Such weather patterns are not uncommon during the transitional spring period in Qatar, when temperature differentials between warming land surfaces and cooler sea waters can fuel rapid storm development.
