Hezbollah Launches New Rocket Barrage, Targeting Northern Israel with Nearly 50 Missiles

Hezbollah launched a new wave of rocket fire toward northern Israel on Tuesday, bringing the total number of projectiles fired in the latest escalation to nearly 50, as Israeli emergency services reported casualties in two cities and authorities imposed a near-total blackout on damage assessments.

Israeli ambulance service Magen David Adom confirmed three people were wounded in the northern cities of Haifa and Karmiel following rocket impacts. The nature and severity of the injuries were not immediately disclosed. Israel's military said its air defense systems intercepted a number of the incoming missiles, while others fell in open areas, though independent verification of those claims remained impossible amid sweeping military censorship.

The Lebanon-based armed group claimed responsibility for the barrages in statements released through affiliated channels, framing the strikes as a response to ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, where the death toll from more than eighteen months of bombardment has surpassed 50,000 according to Palestinian health authorities.

The exchange of fire underscores the sustained pressure on the northern front even as international diplomatic efforts have repeatedly failed to produce a durable ceasefire along the Lebanon-Israel border. A fragile truce brokered in late 2024 has been repeatedly strained by violations on both sides, and Tuesday's barrage represents one of the more significant single-day volleys in recent weeks.

Qatar has maintained an active diplomatic role in the broader regional de-escalation effort, with Doha serving as a key intermediary in ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel over the Gaza conflict. Qatari officials have consistently called for restraint across all active fronts in the region and have urged parties to protect civilian populations from the consequences of military escalation.

The Gulf Cooperation Council, of which Qatar is a member, has repeatedly warned that the broadening of armed confrontations risks destabilizing the wider Middle East and undermining efforts to establish lasting political solutions to the Palestinian question.

The latest strikes come as humanitarian agencies warn of catastrophic conditions inside Gaza and as regional capitals brace for the possibility of further escalation. No group claimed any Israeli military personnel among the casualties reported Tuesday, and Israeli authorities had not issued a full damage report at the time of publication.
