Muslims in the Holy Mosque are raising prayers for Gaza during Tawaf amidst the blessed last ten days of Ramadan,
Pilgrims performing Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Mecca raised collective prayers for the people of Gaza during Tawaf around the Kaaba on Thursday, in deeply moving scenes that underscored the depth of Muslim solidarity with Palestinians as the blessed last ten nights of Ramadan drew worshippers in vast numbers to Islam's holiest site.
Video footage circulating on social media showed groups of worshippers lifting their hands in supplication as they circumambulated the Kaaba, their voices rising in unison with prayers calling on God to grant victory to the people of Gaza and to protect them from their aggressors. The scenes resonated widely across the Arab and Muslim world, with the clips shared millions of times within hours of their appearance online.
The spontaneous prayers came as the Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip continues to inflict devastating civilian casualties, with Palestinian health authorities reporting that the death toll has surpassed 42,000 since October 2023. The last ten nights of Ramadan hold particular spiritual significance in Islam, as they include Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree, which the Quran describes as better than a thousand months. Muslims believe prayers offered during this period carry exceptional weight.
The Grand Mosque in Mecca has welcomed record numbers of worshippers this Ramadan season, with Saudi authorities reporting that millions have performed Umrah during the holy month. The convergence of the heightened spiritual atmosphere with the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza has made the Palestinian cause a central theme of prayers and sermons across mosques in the Gulf region and beyond.
Qatar has been at the forefront of international mediation efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave. Doha has hosted multiple rounds of negotiations between the warring parties and has committed hundreds of millions of dollars in humanitarian assistance to Palestinians. The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has repeatedly called on the international community to take concrete action to halt the violence and address the root causes of the conflict, including the decades-long occupation.
The Qatar Fund for Development has also played a significant role in providing emergency relief to displaced families in Gaza, while Qatari diplomatic channels continue to press for sustained humanitarian access and an end to hostilities.
Religious scholars across the Gulf have encouraged worshippers to dedicate their prayers during the final nights of Ramadan to the people of Gaza, describing solidarity with the oppressed as a fundamental obligation of faith. The scenes from the Grand Mosque served as a powerful reminder that the Palestinian cause remains deeply embedded in the collective conscience of the Muslim world, transcending borders and political divisions during the holiest period of the Islamic calendar.
